Op 6 februari worden de jaarlijkse Grammy’s uitgereikt in de VS. Veel van de genomineerde jazzmuzikanten zijn bekende namen voor Jazzism-lezers.
Bij de 64e Grammy Awards in 2022 won Jon Batiste’s We Are de prestigieuze titel van ‘Album van het Jaar’. Nu is hij klaar om dit succes voort te zetten met zijn opvolger, World Music Radio. Hij is ook genomineerd voor ‘Record van het Jaar’, ‘Nummer van het Jaar’, ‘Beste Jazzuitvoering’, ‘Beste American Roots Uitvoering’ en ‘Beste Pop Duo/Groep Uitvoering’ voor zijn gastoptreden op Lana Del Rey’s Candy Necklace.
Andere genomineerde jazzmuzikanten dit jaar zijn onder anderen Samara Joy, Lakecia Benjamin, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Kenny Barron, Hilario Durán, Maria Mendes, Robert Glasper, Billy Childs, Julian Lage en Pat Metheny. Het Metropole Orkest dingt zelfs 2 keer mee met Maria Mendes ft. John Beasley en met Vince Mendoza’s Olympians.
